Peganum harmala

Peganum harmala commonly known as “harmal” grows spontaneously in semiarid and predesertic regions of south-east Morocco. The success of Peganum harmala (African rue) in the arid environments is due in part to the ability of seedlings to tolerate and recover from water deficit. Peganum harmala is used in Moroccan traditional medicine (treatment of diabetes and/or hypertension, empiric treatment of cancers.
