Gisekia pharnaceoides - plante en C 4 - est considérée comme un agrégat qui regrouperait les sept espèces actuellement reconnues. Originaire d’Afrique du sud, la plante s’est répandue en Afrique à partir des phases arides du Miocène (Bissenger et al., 2014).
